Literature Text

Fireflies, flitting faintly through the night,
Sparkling tails of anguished bright delight,
Performing in perfect formation
Entertaining with indignation.

The whips lash down upon their weary backs,
Harsh and unnoticed electric cracks.
Flashing with the strain that they must keep
As the nation cheers, the flies… they weep.

For lights, if stared into for long enough
Can blur the vision of even the tough.
The happiness can sometimes be maligned
If seen by one that, due to light, is blind.
Though this might not appear to fit the theme at first, it does.

I'll let you think about it, and won't offer an explanation. I want to see what you make of it.

The title guides the subject matter.

The first two lines of the last grouping seems a bit akward to me, but I love the mood of the poem. It's interesting.
